Alana Sabin: Smart Graphic Design

Have I mentioned I love frogs?
Okay, so I REALLY love frogs. Which is why, when I got it in my head to create some “baby frog” avatars, I just had to do it.

Using Non-Traditional Drawing Tools (top)
On rainy afternoons – or whenever the mood strikes me, really – I like to take some paint and whatever implements I can find around the house and just see what abstract images I can create. These are just a few of the results I’ve had over the years, and include painting with things like bottle nipples, paper clips, toy trucks, a small wrench, and dried rubber cement. Seriously!

Caricatures (top)
I may not be quick enough for an amusement park or carnival, but there are times when it’s just fun to sit down and create a caricature of a friend or loved one.

Stargate Soda Labels (top)
While working as a Graphic Designer on the Stargate Worlds team for Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the opportunity arose for me to participate in a “morale project.” We took the sodas and drinks from the vending machine and redesigned the labels to reflect characters and jargon from the Stargate television series.

Here’s a video about the project (pardon my pregnant belly):

And here are the resulting soda label designs: (top)
